Digital Print Silk Sateen Scarf ~ A Collection of Earrings ~ Bernadette Watt
In 2017 Anindilyakwa Arts launched their first Bush Dye collection, including plant dyed fashion along with accessories woven from reclaimed ghost nets and recycled textiles such as earrings, bags and baskets on the Darwin Aboriginal Art Fair ‘Country to Couture’ catwalk.
Collaborating with Darwin textile artist Anna Reynolds, Warnumamalya artists now also incorporate digital textile designs into their fashion collection pieces. Elements from each artist's artworks, country and culture are photographed then manipulated in design software to create an exclusive design.
In 2021 this process expanded to an exclusive digital printed scarf range, printed on a selection of beautiful silks.
'I chose earrings to make my design with because it's interesting to do the weaving with pandanus to make the different shapes and how you can work with the pandanus to make, silk sari and ghost net to make a pair of earrings. To mix it up having the different materials, makes it a lovely colour when it comes together. I like making earrings in different ways and shapes. I'm good at making them. I put my favourite earrings to make on my fabric. My favourite colours to make are red, purple, pink and for pandanus I like yellow and red. I'm happy to see when people wear my earrings, I'm so proud of what I do. I'm so proud to see it on the big material like this.' - Bernadette Watt
