Black Line

Black line is a dyeing technique that warnumamalya artists have developed alongside artist Anna Reynolds. Using maringmurnamurna (quinine) and a secret paste the artists can paint their stories onto the garment to create intricate, designs and one-off pieces of wearable art. Each piece is hand painted in the Angurugu & Umbakumba art centres and then washed in the salt waters of Groote Eylandt.
