Blush Plants, Lino Print
30cm x 23cm
"This is a bush plant. We use it by boiling. If someone has a bad cough they drink it as bush medicine" Anindilyakwa artists tell contemporary and traditional stories of country through printmaking. New and traditional mark making techniques are applied to the lino, with each artist developing their own unique patterns and imagery. Prints are hand printed with a barren to create each edition.
Artist
Robyn (Angela) Williams was born on Mornington Island in Queensland before moving to Groote Eylandt with her Wanindilyakwa husband. Robyn has four daughters - who are also talented artists and a young son.
Robyn creates beautiful contemporary weavings, specialising in ghost net and often incorporating shells and bright accents into her work. Robyn was also instrimental in the development of the artists' latest range of Bush Dye colours, enthusiastically collecting and experimenting with new botanicals. "Doing basket earrings, bush dye and ghost net" is what she considers the highlight of working for the art centre.
Robyn credits her artistic knowledge and skills to the women of her family particularly her grandmother, Alma Williams (dec.)
