Finalist: Woollahra Small Sculpture Prize

Finalist: Woollahra Small Sculpture Prize

28 September – 05 November 2023
Woollahra Gallery at Redleaf | Sydney NSW

The Woollahra Small Sculpture Prize celebrates and explores the full potential of the small sculpture format. The prestigious award supports and promotes diverse, original, freestanding and wall-mounted sculptures in a variety of mediums, so long as they measure below 80cm in any dimension.

First-time entrant, Elvis Bara, was named a finalist in this year’s Woollahra Small Sculpture Prize. One of the few remote, First Nations artists represented in the prize, Elvis said he was proud to be showcased for the second time this year at the Redleaf Gallery and glad that, again, his artwork has been sold by the gallery and will be going to a new home.

Elvis’ artwork Darrakurukwa and Dukururrka (Pigeons) 2023, tells the story of native pigeons nesting on Groote Eylandt, waiting patiently for their babies to hatch. The artwork was carved by Elvis from locally sourced milkwood and painted with a combination of his distinctive manganese and sand styles.
