Commission: National Centre for Indigenous Genomics (NCIG)

In celebration of the 10th anniversary of the National Centre for Indigenous Genomics (NCIG), the art centre was commissioned to create a number of special gifts for NCIG board members.  

Male board members received hand-carved, stringy bark maminjirrada (hook spear) heads, adorned in senior artist Elvis Bara’s signature sand painting and ochre. Female board members received a curated set of two Dadikwakwa-kwa (doll shells) of varying designs.  

All artworks were created within the art centre’s cultural revitalisation program and presented to the guests of honour during the 2023 NCIG Summer Oration, held at the National Film and Sound Archive.
